Congratulations, and thanks for applying the v1.7.99 tag on master, as
discussed previously. "git describe" is now happy:

I then went to describe v*.99 tag in

what I wrote may need a cleanup, please review:

(I would also add info about v*.99 to

section, but from a quick read, what's written there doesn't exactly
