Bluetooth: HCI RPMsg on nRF5340
#bluetooth

renkai@...
Hi,
I have two questions about HCI RPMsg: 1. If I have nRF5340DK, what's the <board name> I can use to build the firmware? nrf5340dk_nrf5340? nrf5340dk_nrf5340_cpuapp? nrf5340dk_nrf5340_cpunet? 2. I found that "#define HCI_RPMSG_ISO 0x05" was added on main.c, does it mean that this sample code support the HCI commands related to Bluetooth LE Isochronous Channels? Kai

Zephyr 2.5.0 RC3 tagged
Nashif, Anas
Hi, The third release candidate for Zephyr v2.5.0 has been tagged (v2.5.0-rc3).
The merge window for features and enhancements remains closed until v2.5.0 is released. The next release milestone is code freeze. The final release remains scheduled for 12 Feb.
The focus now should be shifted to testing and documentation of the release. If you are a maintainer, please provide release notes for the areas you are responsible for and any other contributions you might have submitted since the last release. Everyone is encouraged to contribute to the release notes. The draft release notes file can be found here:
https://github.com/zephyrproject-rtos/zephyr/blob/master/doc/releases/release-notes-2.5.rst
During the stabilization period only bug-fix, documentation, and stabilization-related patches may be merged to master. Additional features or enhancements for the v2.5.0 release require approval by the TSC.
As we need to reduce bug counts for the release, you are all encouraged to submit PRs that close existing bug reports, and to help reviewing such PRs submitted by other contributors or maintainers. Current bug counts are:
High: 3 (Target: 0) Medium: 21 (Target: 20) Low: 94 (Target: 100)
More information about bugs counts and real-time tracking of bug counts can be found here: https://testing.zephyrproject.org/issues/zephyrproject-rtos/zephyr/index.html
Testing Zephyr master branch during the stabilization period is also requested; please test the code base and file bug reports so they can be addressed before the release deadline.
All changes since 2.5.0-rc2 can be found here: https://github.com/zephyrproject-rtos/zephyr/releases/tag/v2.5.0-rc3
More details about Zephyr releases can found on the pages below: https://docs.zephyrproject.org/latest/development_process/release_process.html
You may continue to send Pull Requests for new features in order to gather feedback early or collaborate with others, but the release team would like to encourage everyone to focus on bugfixes and documentation improvements to the largest extent possible, so that we can release v2.5.0 on time and in the best shape possible. If you have a feature or enhancement you would like to submit to the TSC, please tag the Pull Request with the "TSC" label, make sure it is approved and passing CI, and attend the next TSC meeting.
Thanks, Anas

Re: Zero latency interrupt extension for ARMv6-M
Glaropoulos, Ioannis
Hi Fabio,
Thanks for your email. To the best of my knowledge, none is working on ZLI on Baseline Cortex-M. If you would like to move with this forward, the best way is to an RFC issue in the Zephyr main tree Github, to get feedback from the architecture maintainers/collaborators. Remember to copy the content in this email thread. Some comments to your suggestion: ZLI works OK on Mainline Cortex-M, essentially because we can guarantee the following priority level order: ZLI > Kernel > HW IRQs (+misc) > PendSV (Faults are always given highest configurable priority) So ZLIs can preempt all HW IRQs, and can also preempt the Kernel (i.e. SVCs). Now on Baseline (If I understand the proposal): - PRIMASK won't be used at all for IRQ locking, if the ZLI feature is enabled. - For ZLIs to preempt the kernel (thus, for ZLI to have the same functionality as in Mainline), SVCs need to be given a priority level lower than the ZLIs. That means, 1 out of 4 priority levels need to be reserved, which is something we were trying to avoid for some time. There's also the performance of irq_lock and _unlock functions: the beauty of the current solution is that no memory-mapped register access is performed. This speeds up the execution, and requires only an ISB barrier. With NVIC, read-modify-write and ram-variable-storing we will need memory-mapped accesses in addition to data synchronization barriers, which might increase the overhead of locking and unlocking the IRQs. The problem will be harder on Armv8-m Baseline, which has support for much more than 32 IRQ lines. Guess these are reasons why the software emulation of irq locking "up-to-a-priority-level" has not attracted much attention so far, but I'd be happy to see an actual discussion going on here, ideally in an RFC Github issue. Best, Ioannis
