No - application code need not do that. It is enough that the apps define CONFIG_UART_CONSOLE_ON_DEV_NAME if they want to override the default console

service time regression.
Yes that is what test_latency_measure is supposed to do.

I don't know if this helps, but one thing I've noticed since the change to unified kernel, is that interrupt handling might be a bit slower. For SPI, interrupts come at a high rate.
